On Tuesday, August 13 from 5:30 until 7:00 pm, Chuckey-Doak High School hosted an open house for parents and students. Open House is an event where teachers and school faculty help parents become more familiar with what is going on in their child’s life. Parents can ask questions and make other inquiries during the opening presentation and one-on-one teacher conversations.
This year, Open House began with a powerpoint explaining the importance of high school from Principal Broyles. After parents and students were finished with the powerpoint, they could exit the auditorium and acquire some food from the commons, served by our class officers/volunteers. If needed, they could then go to one of the several open rooms where teachers would be waiting to answer any concerns or questions. Parents could meet their child’s teachers as well.

We interviewed students and parents to find out how they felt about open house and other school activities. We also went in depth about other questions people may have been curious about.
Later in the evening, we talked to teachers to ask them about how it feels meeting parents and the overall importance of education. We also wanted to find out what makes teachers passionate about their jobs.
Overall, Open House was a huge success. Many parents felt more secure after knowing what is going on with their children. Teachers were able to better understand the demographic of parents, and new students were better prepared for the upcoming school year and what is expected in their high school career.
