FFA Hosts First Chapter Meeting

This past month, the FFA has got ‘moo’vin in the community. The first Chuckey-Doak FFA Chapter meeting of the year went off with flying colors! We interviewed several FFA Officers and aspiring Chapter members. The officers kicked off the meeting with a formal introduction, followed by announcements, food, and games.

Throughout the evening, we asked a handful of officers what FFA meant to them.

“It’s my whole life; agriculture and horticulture are my whole life.”

Joshua Franklin, Sentinel (25)

“It’s made me who I am today, made me more outgoing, and how I am

in life.” – Chelsea Hensley, Vice President (25)

Secretary Sapana Das proudly explained how FFA had changed her high school career for the better. In Mr. Murray’s agriscience class, Sapana said she walked in without any interest or history with FFA or anything of the sorts; she was simply showing up to class just to get another credit. However, agriscience went on to become much more when she was introduced to FFA. Sapana quickly became a strong active member, becoming Sentinel her sophomore year and now the Secretary of the Chuckey-Doak FFA Chapter.

“FFA is the table you’re looking at, the chair you’re sitting in, and the clothes you’re wearing. To me, it’s family and a community – not just farmers.”      – Sapana Das, Secretary (26)

After announcements, the officer team led games such as a scavenger hunt, a cornhole tournament, and a jeopardy-style game called “Are You Smarter Than an FFA Officer?”  Students were split up into teams and moved between each station and activity. The teams scores were then tallied up at the end of the evening and ranked to determine a final winner.

As the groups excitedly went through the games, we interviewed a couple of the new faces. All of the students appeared to be excited for the upcoming year and events!

Overall, the event was a smash hit for all new and returning members of the chapter. If you like going on field trips, being a part of a community, or agriculture in general, think about showing up to the next chapter meeting! Talk to Mr. Murray, Mr. Clemmer, or an FFA Officer about joining FFA today.
