Chuckey-Doak High School was in the middle of Homecoming Week 2024 when students and faculty were sent home to prepare for a natural disaster that wound up devastating our community. After an extended time out of school due to recovery efforts, our students’ lives are starting to return to normal, which means that our remaining homecoming events have been rescheduled thanks to our amazing Homecoming Committee led by Mrs. Angie Beets.

On Monday, October 21st, our students will be testing for the ACT and ASVAB. At the conclusion of testing, students will eat lunch and then go to the gym to conclude the Class Competition. Seniors, juniors, sophomores, or freshmen will win the coveted class cup after competing in dodgeball, tug-o-war, and teachers vs. winners. There will be no dressing up on this day due to testing; students will not be able to leave after testing to return for the class competition – – they should stay on campus if they want to take part in the festivities.

On Monday, October 28th, we will have Color Wars Day at school. Seniors wear blue; juniors wear orange; sophomores wear green; freshmen wear red; faculty wears pink. No paint is allowed at school, but students are allowed to use paint at home to go with their color wars ensemble. At 1:30, the homecoming court will have coronation rehearsal on the football field.

On Tuesday, October 29th, we will have Black & Gold Day at school with many special events that night beginning on the football field. Admission is $3. At 5:45 pm, homecoming candidates and escorts will line up. At 6:00 pm, we will have our queen ceremony and coronation. At 7:00 pm, we will have our powder puff game; girls who want to play must have permission slip returned. At 8:00 pm, we will have our knighting ceremony followed by the bonfire. Events will conclude by 9:15 pm. If you have any questions about the events, see Mrs. Angie Beets or a member of the homecoming committee.

RECAP
To help us get ready to finish up Homecoming 2024, let us review what we have done already. Homecoming kicked off with Dress for Success on Thursday, September 19th.
Thursday was also the day of our Homecoming Court Tea Party, hosted by Mrs. Beets.
Then, on Friday, September 20th students dressed for Jersey Day. That night, we hosted a home football game.
The next week started our class competition days. On Monday, October 23rd, our students dressed for Music Movie Monday and competed with games that afternoon like Hungry, Hungry Hippo, Rubik’s Cube, Sole Search, and the balloon relay.
On Tuesday, October 24th, our students dressed for Holiday Day. Students chose their favorite holiday to dress for, and we celebrated all the holidays in one day, followed by our class competition games in the afternoon. We held our scooter relay, toilet paper relay, and dance off.
On Wednesday, October 25th, our students really showed out with their Soccer Moms and BBQ Dads costumes. The gym was super hype that afternoon as the class competition continued with a hot dog eating contest, musical chairs, leap frog, and the soccer relay.
We’re excited to pick up where we left off on Monday after testing concludes! If you have any questions, see Mrs. Beets or a member of the homecoming committee. Homecoming is our favorite event of the year; the traditions will continue next week!
