Here at Chuckey-Doak, we offer many sports; one of those sports include bowling. Bowling is a sport in which a heavy ball is rolled down a lane to knock down as many pins as you can to try and defeat your opponent. Our school and South Greene have a joint program that has been very successful this season. With the successful season, we have a member of the team named Gavin Murray who qualified to be a Mr. Bowling Finalist! This is an EXTREMELY prestigious accomplishment for him and the team. So here we have Gavin Murray to ask him a couple of questions and talk with him about his bowling experience.
Spotlight Interview: Gavin Murray
Interview: We communicated with Gavin via text due to him not being able to physically be here. We first asked him,
“How did it feel knowing you were nominated as a Mr. Bowling Finalist?”
He answered, “To be honest, I kind of forgot that I was even nominated for Mr. Bowling because the process is very drawn out. Coach Painter (Region 1 director and the coach who nominated me) surprised me by announcing it the morning of the Regional tournament in front of everyone. It was awesome to be recognized as a finalist in front of our team and our fans.”
Dominique: “That’s great! On January 22, 2025, you were named TSSAA’s Mr. Bowling tell us how you felt knowing you accomplished that goal.”
Gavin: “I didn’t know who the other two finalists were before our names were called at the state tournament. Both of the other two finalists are great bowlers, and Alex is actually a former teammate and friend. Knowing who I was up against made me nervous. When my name was called for Mr. Bowling, I was completely shocked. This is such an incredible honor and I am so grateful for everyone that has helped me to become the person I am today, including my coaches over the years and especially my parents.”
Dominique: “Well congratulations Gavin, and lastly is there anything you want to say to future generations that plan to bowl?”
Gavin: “I think we’re going to see big growth in Region 1 bowling in the next few years. The opportunity to compete not only for your school, but the scholarship opportunity for student athletes is huge and I hope that our team’s success brings some light to our sport in our area!”
Dominique: “Well thank you Gavin and again congratulations on not only a very successful season, but being honored as Mr. Bowling. As a school, we want Gavin to know how proud of him and all of his teammates we are. Thank you!”
Mr. Bowling Finalist: A Finalist is a bowler who has been selected as a top contender for the state title of Mr. Bowling.
