Drug Abuse Awareness Presented by Greene County SO

Article & Video By: Molly Barricks

Greene County Sheriff Deputies Cody Travis and Briann Bailey came and spoke to Coach Beets’ wellness classes on February 5, 2025. The officers shared stories of former and current people struggling with drug addiction and mental illness, which was very enlightening for our students. There are multiple stories in the video below describing a harsh reality for some former and even current students at Chuckey-Doak High School. This video is kind of lengthy, but there are some very informative and genuine stories about how drug abuse can negatively impact people’s lives.

We want to thank Greene County Sheriff’s Office for coming out and talking to each of the four classes. There are so many people that we don’t know, who struggle through some of the things they talked about. Drug abuse and mental illness is a major issue in today’s generation. With more cases of drug overdose and mental health issues, it is important to be informed on the dangers of taking drugs and resources for helping with mental illness. If you or anyone you know are struggling with drug abuse or mental health issues, please know there is help available! CDHS students can go talk to a school counselor. Community members, there is help for you as well. Text or call 988 or chat 988lifeline.org.
