Second semester of the 2024-2025 school year has definitely been one for the books. Chuckey-Doak High school had 4 seniors sign off to play for colleges this fall in their respective sports. Molly Barricks signed to Carson-Newman University for Cheerleading. Robert (Billy) Hahnlen IV has signed to Wingate University for Football. Layla Fox has signed to Milligan University for Golf. Lastly, Tavyn Southerland signed to Milligan University for Soccer. The strides these seniors have made in academics and athletics is admiring, and we are so beyond proud of them! Opportunities like these are once in a lifetime, and we are so glad these students get to experience them.

Molly Barricks has been a cheerleader at Chuckey-Doak since her junior year. Never cheering before, we are so glad she gave it a chance and gave it her all. Progress is always so amazing to watch when it comes to having different girls on the team every year. During cheer camp both years, the team won different awards and medals. She will now be cheering on the Eagles, and we hope to see her continue to grow with her academics and athletics!

Robert (Billy) Hanlen has played Football and Soccer for three years of high school. Not only has Billy excelled in academics, he has also been an asset to both teams. Billy became the kicker for our football team during his senior year, and he helped score touchdowns for our team through his field goals. We are so excited to see him become a better collegiate kicker for Wingate, and we can’t wait to watch him progress!

Layla Fox has played golf, basketball, and soccer for all four years in high school, plus she ran track for three years here at Chuckey-Doak. Just like all of these seniors, Layla has soared with her academics all 4 years, and she has been a big asset for all of the teams she has been on. This year her and the girls basketball team made it to the regional semi-finals for the first time since 2018. Layla is also the 12th golfer in the state of Tennessee for High School Girls. She helped lead her team to state and they placed 5th, a school record for golf. We are so excited to watch her thrive at Milligan, best of luck to her!

Tavyn Southerland has played soccer, softball, and basketball throughout her 4 years here. Her academics are astounding, leading her to be Valedictorian for the Class of 2025. She has also been a huge part of the sports teams she has been on. Along with Layla, she was part of the girls basketball team this year that went to the regional semi-finals. Signing to Milligan for soccer shows her dedication to her sport, and we are ready to watch her become an even better athlete and scholar.
Multiple of these athletes also played more than one sport throughout being here at Chuckey-Doak! Making tough decisions like which sport you want to play after high school can be stressful; we are so proud of these students in making choices for their future to better themselves. There is nothing better than seeing or students be successful in what they love. Good luck to all of these students in their years to come; once a black knight always a black night!
