A couple weeks ago, Chuckey-Doaks FFA chapter took a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the FFA convention. Mr. Murray and Mr. Clemmer took 28 students and a group of adults down to Gatlinburg with them to experience and learn about FFA. During this trip, over 5,000 students came from across the state to learn leadership and too compete. Our chapter had 8 different teams compete this year. Sapana Das was state runner up for employment skills, which is notably difficult! The other teams they had compete were: milk quality and product, quiz bowl team, and conduct of chapter meetings. The students that attended the convention did workshops and sessions everyday. The students that attend have a lot of fun attending this convention, so if you’re a student interested in FFA, join to be able to experience these things!
Our Greene County students did so many special things while attending as well. Kenna Combs had the honor of singing the national anthem for the first opening session. She competed in Ag sells, and placed 4th in the state for that! Sapana Das was on the nominating committee for state officers. She competed in 3 different competitions and placed well in all of them. Johnny Cantrell competed in milk quality and explains that you taste milk and different dairy products to see how the quality is. All of the students that attended talk about how good of an opportunity it is to be able to go to the convention. If you have a chance to go, I would go!
Another exciting thing that happened at the convention was that Weston Brown from West Greene High School, was named state FFA president for the next year! How exciting is it to be named president for your state, when there’s so many people that want that position! Congratulations to everyone who competed in any FFA competition, and we can’t wait to see more competitions next year.
