On Thursday, September 25th, Chuckey-Doak High School kicked off its annual homecoming week with its first dress-up day. Students Dressed for Success on the first day, followed by Jersey Day, where everyone showed off their favorite team’s gear. The following week was filled with games and more dress-up games for the students to participate in.
Monday was Character Day, which is when students could dress as their favorite TV, movie, book, cartoon, or anything else they could think of. Tuesday was Neon Lights, also known as Color Wars. Freshmen dressed in yellow, sophomores dressed in green, juniors dressed in orange, seniors dressed in blue, and teachers and faculty dressed in pink. Wednesday was Rap versus Country, which is where students would pick one or the other and dress as people in that genre dress. Thursday was Generations Day, which was when students dressed as a decade or age range. They could dress as a baby or as an elder. Friday was Black & Gold Day, which is when students show off their school spirit and wear school colors.
Also, throughout the week, students participated in a variety of homecoming games and competitions. These games included events such as Solo Search, Rubik’s Cube, Tissue Twerk, Simon Says, Toilet Paper Relay, Noodle Wars, Pantyhose Knockdown, Cup Stacking, Air Mattress Roll, Traditional Relay, Egg Toss, Water Balloon Toss, Leapfrog, Musical Chairs, Dodgeball, and Tug-of-war. During these games, students showed teamwork, leadership, and school pride while creating lasting memories with their classmates.
To finish off homecoming, Chuckey-Doak hosted an exciting pep rally in the gym. Students filled the bleachers with black and gold. During the pep rally, cheerleaders and faculty members came together to perform a dance-off. Each cheerleader picked a teacher and came up with a dance. Students cheered and enjoyed watching these funny and entertaining performances.
On Friday night, the homecoming queen was crowned. Senior Reaghan Berryhill was crowned queen before the football game started. As soon as coronation ended, the football game started. The Black Knights struck first with a touchdown. By the end of the game, the Knights won 19-13 on a last-second touchdown from quarterback Kiptyn Ball to wide receiver Dom Hahnlen. While the game was going on, the cheerleaders kept the crowd fired up throughout the game, leading cheers, performing stunts, and showing amazing school spirit from kickoff until the final whistle. Congratulations to Reaghan and all the other girls on the homecoming court.
