Veterans Day is an important federal holiday that honors all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, recognizing their dedication and the sacrifices they made to protect the nation’s freedoms. It is a day for national reflection and gratitude, acknowledging the courage and commitment of both living veterans and those who died in service, and serves as an opportunity to thank those who have worn a uniform, whether they served in peacetime or during conflict.

This holiday is crucial for teaching younger generations about the importance of service and the cost of freedom, ensuring that the contributions of those who have served are never forgotten. This date is special because it marks the end of World War I — the armistice was signed on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918. That moment ended one of the deadliest conflicts in history, and it became a symbol of peace and remembrance.

To help us celebrate, vloggers Jesus Rojas and Shianne Painter interviewed a few of the students here at CDHS that have or had veterans in their family.

Veterans Day honors all those who have served in our nation’s armed forces — the men and women who’ve dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms. We are reminded every day of the freedoms we enjoy are constantly protected by the sacrifice and courage of both the men and women in our armed forces. So as we look ahead to November 11, let’s take a moment to thank those who’ve served — in our families, our community, and across our nation – not just on this day, but every day.
