As winter sports come to a close, we have compiled a recap of recent events within these sports: Basketball, Cheer, Wrestling, Fishing, and Bowling.

After the close win against Johnson County (73-72), the boys’ team is sitting at 11-9 going into the game against South Greene. They showed how dominant they can be offensively with this young squad, who learned from the veterans such as Ben Palazzo and Gavin Crum.

The girls’ team fought hard against the Longhorns but fell short by 9 points (48-57). Even though they had an upsetting loss, the girls didn’t go down without putting up a fight. The season is all but over, but they still have 9 games left this season. The girls look forward to bouncing back in the game against South Greene this upcoming Friday.

The Black Knights boys’ wrestling team traveled to Greeneville High to compete against Volunteer and Elizabethton. During the matches, the boys fought well but fell short against both teams. The star of the show was Cayden Stills, who won both of his matches. His first match against Elizabethton ended in a mercy rule, where Cayden won 15-0. In the second match, Cayden won by pinning a wrestler from Volunteer.

The Bowling team is a co-op with South Greene High School and Chuckey-Doak High School. With 11 matches this bowling season, the team fought hard against their opponents. The boys placed 3rd in the state last year and were looking to finish at the top this year. For the girls’ team, it was a big season. They strived to make a postseason run with the seniors. The captains are: Evan Stills, Eric White, Hailey Williamson, and Sara Wirt, and they have set a great example for both teams. One of the big moments for the Bowling team was getting to go to individual qualifiers. With the team losing 8 seniors this year, next year may be a bit challenging, but they are confident they can face the challenges of not being on the team with them next year.

Cheerleading coming to an end marks a significant moment filled with a variety of emotions. With its end is a time to appreciate the hard work, dedication, and friendships built throughout countless days spent practicing and performing what they have worked so hard to accomplish. While the chants and stunts conclude, the confidence, teamwork, and spirit that the CDHS Cheer team gained continue to inspire and shape their lives. Head Coach Liz Carlson says, “I’ve learned just as much from this group of girls as they have learned from me. It has been an incredible season. I hate to see it come to an end.” Though the cheerleading season is coming to a close this February, along with the basketball season, the memories and lessons remain, fueling new passions and goals. However, cheerleading will not be over for long; tryouts for the 2026-27 season are in March.

The fishing teams’ season is not coming to an end quite yet. On November 19, 2025, they traveled to Douglas Lake, and Brodie and Kolbie Gibson were able to boat 4 fish for 7.91lbs and placed 39th of 178 boats in the tournament. During the same tournament, Noah and Logan Mentz had 2 fish for 4.03lbs that was good for 78th out of 178 boats. The next tournament they attend will be on Chickamauga Lake on February 21, 2026. Overall, they feel like they are going to succeed this season and hopefully make it to state. Fishing is our only year-round sport, and we hope to see them progress to state and nationals this summer. GO BLACK KNIGHTS!
