As basketball season is coming to an end, tournament season is starting. The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have both earned a spot in the regional tournament by winning their first-round games in the district tournament.

The girls’ basketball team secured an impressive victory in their 3rd matchup against West Greene during the 1st round of tournaments. Having already faced this team twice earlier in the season, they came prepared with a strong defense, confidence, and determination. The girls fought hard for 4 quarters, never giving up. West Greene also showed up and battled, but the Knights responded with disciplined execution. The final score was 39-37. Coach Tanner Early stated, “ I was so happy for the girls. All the hard work they have done this season was finally rewarded by beating West Greene and advancing to the regional tournament. They deserve all the credit for winning that game, I couldn’t be more proud of them and for being their coach!”

The boys’ basketball team opened tournament play with an impressive first-round win over Johnson County at home. Both teams were close in the first half; however, the Knights pulled away in the second half and finished the game with an 18-point lead. Coach Sam Broyles expressed, “ I couldn’t be more proud of them for winning and getting to go to regionals this year. Getting to go this year means a lot, especially to the seniors.”

The girls’ team ended the district tournament placing 4th. They play Gatlinburg-Pittman High School in the first round of the regional tournament on Friday, February 27. The boys’ team also placed 4th in the district tournament and will play Gatlinburg-Pittman on Saturday, February 28.
