The beginning of the school year also means the beginning of fall sports at Chuckey-Doak High School. These fall sports include Golf, Girls’ Soccer, Football, Cross Country, Volleyball, and Cheerleading. Although some of these sports programs have already started, the rest of them are looking forward to a great season and new beginnings!
The golf team has already been playing, and they are halfway through their season. They have been steadily improving, with players focusing on precision and consistency to compete in local and regional tournaments. The golf team is led by captains Knox McAmis and Harley Thompson. Their commitment to practice and teamwork is evident as they aim to make a strong impact this season. The girls’ team as a whole has dominated the single-A matches, with Harley Thompson, Addilyn Boesch, and Alexis Deming all contributing to the team scores. The boys’ team has also been persistent and had their best match of the season last week; statistically, Knox McAmis, Ty Shelton, and Harrison Ayers are tied for individual season averages. Playoffs for golf begin September 15th. The Black Knights golf team is coached by D’Lee Pollock, Timmy Thompson, and Austin Davis.

Girls’ soccer at Chuckey-Doak is pumped up for the upcoming season. The team is full of a lot of returning faces and a chemistry like no other! The team’s speed, agility, and strategic plays have made their scrimmages thrilling to watch. Coaches emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship, helping the players grow both on and off the field. The season promises intense competition as they soon start their season. Some of the Lady Black Knights have already proven to be standouts on the field: Lindsey Rojas, Caitlin Larsen, Kennah Marshall, and Betsie Ramirez. The team has already competed in three scrimmages, bringing home one win. Soccer playoffs begin October 12th. The Lady Black Knights are coached by Anna Ricker, Lester Ricker, and Lexi Hensley.

Football remains a cornerstone of Chuckey-Doak’s fall sports, drawing large crowds to every game. The team is working hard on both offense and defense, with standout players stepping up to lead the squad, such as Kiptyn Ball, Cobe Love, Braxton Lowe, Brody Myers, and many more. The Black Knights have played in several 7 V. 7 competitions, two scrimmages, and a jamboree. Their first game is against the Huskies at North Greene, who is a county rival and will prove how well the team can play together under high pressure, and they are looking forward to playing at “The Tundra” for the first time in 5 years. Playoffs for football will begin in November. The Black Knights are coached by Billy Kaylor, Jason Hensley, Devin Dye, and William Hensley.

Cross country also plays a vital role in the school’s fall sports lineup. The cross country runners are training rigorously to build endurance and speed as they prepare for challenging courses ahead. Landon Thomas, Collin Lovins, Benji Merrill, and Ayen Hollifield lead the Black Knights in this long-distance running sport; they are all returning to the trail this school year to compete. Playoffs for cross country begin October 8th with the Greene County Championship and October 20th with the Twin Lakes Championship. They are coached by Becca May.

The Lady Black Knights Volleyball Team is coming off their historic season last year, where they placed 5th in the state. Team standouts from last season include Jacey Taylor, Jayden Myers, Chloe Kirkpatrick, Macy Church, and Isabelle Karriker. The Lady Black Knights have already competed twice in scrimmages with William Blount and Alcoa, and once for a play date versus the county high schools. The program features both a varsity and junior varsity team this year with the goal of returning to state this year. Our girls are ready to pass, set, and hit into this season. Volleyball playoffs begin October 5th for the varsity Lady Black Knights. They are coached by Marissa Snapp, Wyndi Snapp, and Baylee Jarrell.

Finally, the cheerleading team stands ready to support all of our fall sport athletes, and they will be featured every Friday during our football games. Xayda Vereeke and Reagan Brown, two senior cheer standouts, earned All-American this summer and will be visiting London this winter with the other All-American cheerleaders. The CDHS cheer team attended UCA camp this summer, and they are also planning on competing this winter in state-level competitions to hopefully attend nationals this January. The cheerleading team is ready to pump up the crowds and hype of the teams for Chuckey-Doak and make history as the first CD cheer squad to compete at the state level. They are coached by Liz Carlson and Madi Jennings.

Fall sports at Chuckey-Doak High School offer student-athletes many different choices. Whether they excel in football, soccer, cheer, volleyball, golf, or cross country, they are prepared and ready to represent the Black Knights on the field, course, court, and trail. The Black Knights and their coaching staffs are directed by our new Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Dr. Alex Turner, who said, “I’m excited to see what we can do. I’m ready for post-season tournaments and hopefully state.”
