After a long, hot two-month summer vacation, the students at CDHS returned to school on Friday, August 7th, for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, greeted by smiling faces and welcoming classrooms. Doors opened at 7:15 a.m., where breakfast is provided for all students. First day of school excitement and nerves filled the halls as students shuffled in by 7:50 am to head to their 1st Period.

In order to start on the right foot, the Freshman Class of 2030 attended orientation on Wednesday the 5th. During this two-hour day, students gathered at the school before every other grade to get their class schedules and learn their way around the building. This helps them feel more comfortable on the first day for all grades and also limits nervousness to increase focus during instructional time.

On the other hand, for the seniors, it is the beginning of their last year as high school students. This time, walking through the halls is a little nostalgic, seeing as they are trying to soak up every moment. Recently, they had their final picture day, separate from the underclassmen, to solidify the memories they have made in a traditional photograph like the ones hanging throughout the halls of Chuckey-Doak. Other upcoming senior events are to follow, like Senior Sunrise, which was held Friday, August 14th. 

As for changes made to the schedule, students now attend their 25-minute “Knight-Time,” corresponding to the four periods they have. On Mondays, students report back to their first-period class. On Tuesdays, they remain in their second-period class. On Wednesdays, they move to their third-period class, and on Thursdays, they go to their fourth-period class. On Fridays, Students are given the opportunity to branch out and explore new clubs. During their 25-minute period, students may report to one of the 20+ clubs offered at Chuckey-Doak High School. We encourage students to step out of their comfort zone or welcome others to theirs by attending on Fridays. Those who do not attend a club can take a breath of fresh air and stretch their legs outside, weather permitting. 

Staff and Students at CDHS are thrilled to be back in the black and gold hallways and getting back in the flow of things. We hope the summer treated everyone well, and we are hoping for a great 67th year of Chuckey-Doak High School. Go, Black Knights!
