Chuckey-Doak High School’s BK Media student organization and Digital Arts and Design class is responsible for designing, producing, and selling The Accolade yearbook annually. Josten’s, the publisher of The Accolade, announced this morning that the 2026 Dawn to Dusk Accolade has been awarded the Gold Medal from the National Yearbook Program of Excellence. This is the second year in a row that BK Media has earned this national honor. Josten’s sent a digital certificate, and a plaque commemorating the achievement is also on the way.

The Digital Arts and Design Team is led by Librarian-Media Specialist and Teacher D’Lee Pollock and supported by AV Teacher Jason Hensley. This year’s book was originally planned by Former Editor-in-Chief Harlee Richardson, Current Editor-in-Chief Emmie Tipton, Chief Yearbook Editor Macy Church, Creative Editor Jasmine Baker, and Chief Art Editor Kolby Shannon in May 2025. The yearbook planning committee met again in July and August 2025 with additional members Harley Thompson, Hayleigh Seidl, and Michelle Brooks to change and fully develop the theme of this year’s book.

This year’s annual was developed around a sunrise and sunset theme. BK Media felt inspired by the rebuilding and growth in Greene County after the 2024 Flood due to Hurricane Helene, and they wanted to represent that new start with sunrises. They also wanted to highlight local sunrises and sunsets in Greene County to show off the natural beauty of the area while also celebrating the firsts and lasts from the Class of 2026. Artistically, the print publications team, AKA the yearbook team, used a plethora of sunrise and sunset colors along with a pop design style throughout the book, with the art team choosing bold and vibrant photography edits.

On Thursday, May 7th, the yearbook dedication was announced in honor of Mr. Lee Porterfield, who has taught at CDHS for over 30 years, serving as a history, civics, economics, psychology, and sociology teacher. Mr. Porterfield has also led our class officers, our wrestling program, our Veterans Day Program, and our biannual blood drive. He is a former airman with the United States Air Force Reserves. Mr. Porterfield is retiring at the end of this school year, and BK Media wanted to recognize his lifetime of service as a Black Knight.

BK Media is proud to represent Chuckey-Doak High School. This national yearbook achievement would not be possible without the whole Black Knight Family allowing BK Media to photograph and video all of the school’s events, lessons, and athletics! The yearbook records everything from the classroom experiences to Homecoming week to every athletic program to every student organization to Prom and everything in between.

The students listed below are the ones responsible for this year’s National Gold Medal. They have spent hundreds of hours designing, photographing, and captioning this school year, and many of them will be returning to next year’s staff. Congratulations to each of them and to BK Media for this achievement!

The Task Master Award shows dedication to deadlines, planning, and finishing. The Best Seller Award shows that BK Media met its sales goal with “at least 70% of the student body purchasing a book or achieving a 2% buy rate increase from last year” (Josten’s).

Ms. Pollock would like to especially recognize three students for their leadership and work ethic on this yearbook: Macy Church, Emmie Tipton, and Eli Neas.

Ms. Pollock would like to especially recognize three students for their leadership and work ethic on this yearbook: Macy Church, Emmie Tipton, and Eli Neas. Macy Church worked tirelessly on this project, spending both class time and personal time assuring that our deadline were met and our goals were being accomplished. Even on Snow Days, Macy worked on the yearbook. Emmie Tipton and Eli Neas are responsible for the majority of the group photos for our clubs and sports teams. Emmie also created our end sheets and index designs. Eli also created many of the graphics as well as editing hundreds of photos used in this year’s book. Both Emmie and Eli used their own time and resources to cover school events and highlight our student athletes throughout all of our athletic seasons.

Principal Steven Broyles praised the success of The Accolade yearbook: “I think it is a great honor to be recognized as a National Yearbook Program of Excellence Gold Medal. It is a great accomplishment for our students and school.” Mr. Chase Murray, the chair of CDHS’ CTE Department, recognizes the accomplishment: “I think the yearbook looks great. It is a great achievement for our school and for our media team, and I’m so proud of the students who put that together. It made our yearbook one to remember.”
