Kicking off Homecoming Week

This past week marked the start of Homecoming Week for Chuckey-Doak High School. Chuckey-Doak has one of the most infamous homecoming weeks, typically seven days long; this year, Homecoming is six days long. During homecoming week, everyone, including staff, dresses up according to the pre-planned themed days. Popular upcoming theme days are Country vs. Alternative and the traditional Black and Gold day. Unlike other high schools that have activities on Friday, CDHS has activities every day, including Mattress Relay, Leap Frog, Dodgeball, and finally the Pep Rally.

On Thursday, the Chuckey-Doak Black Knights opened up homecoming week with Game-Day Attire, where students wore any sports attire or jersey to show support for their favorite team. Unlike Monday through Thursday, there were no activities or points acquired on Thursday or Friday.

Friday was Dress for Success Day, when students wore their best attire. Friday was also the Homecoming Candidate Tea Party, where every homecoming candidate selected by their class attended the Tea Party thrown by Homecoming Chair Mrs. Angie Beets. This has been a long-running tradition during homecoming week; the candidates really enjoy this event for socializing and bonding with each of the other girls. 

Friday night was also the first home game of the 2026 season, where the Black Knights defeated the Sullivan East Patriots 20-15. The game theme was Hawaiian, and the student section really showed out. Following the CDHS win was the Knighting Ceremony. This has also been a part of homecoming for many years now. At this ceremony, the senior student government lights the candles of the junior student government to symbolize the passing of responsibilities. To celebrate after was a bonfire with s’mores and hot dogs!

On Monday, the CDHS students and faculty participated in the third dress-up day of homecoming and the first day of games and activities. Monday through Thursday this week begins the “Drench Your Teacher” fundraiser, with all proceeds going to a charity chosen by the student council alongside the Homecoming community. This year, we have chosen to contribute to the Imagination Library in honor of Dolly Parton. Monday’s dress-up theme was Character Day. The first day of activities included the Mattress Surfing Race, Sole Search, the Rubik’s Cube race, and Simon Says. This resulted in the Sophomore Class leading homecoming events in first place and the Seniors following closely behind them. 

This wraps up part one of 2026 homecoming week at Chuckey-Doak High School. Overall, the first half of homecoming week has been filled with fun activities, school spirit, and memorable moments. From dress-up days and class competitions to the homecoming candidate Tea Party, the bonfire, and the first home football game, students and staff have come together to celebrate their school.
